Retrofit: Electric tailgate for GLA 250 4MATIC (247)

Many a supposedly small everyday task can become a problem if you have a health restriction - and that also applies to driving. We have developed various original retrofit solutions for our customers to make everyday driving easier in such cases.

Retrofitting is possible for many Mercedes models

We are currently retrofitting an electric tailgate on a Mercedes-Benz GLA 250. This is a senior-friendly conversion that is also possible in principle for many other Mercedes models (including the GLC, A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class and S-Class). As a basic principle, if the equipment variant is available ex works, we will also find a way to retrofit it.

The components and work steps

Retrofitting the power liftgate normally takes two days - depending on the model - because extensive work is required. To give you an overview of the work steps we perform and the components that need to be replaced, here is a brief list.

The required components:

- Control unit (new)
- Trunk lock (new)
- Gear motor (for the lock)
- Drive spindles (instead of mechanical shock absorber)
- Cable set (modified)

- push button

Of course, as always with us, we use only original Mercedes-Benz parts. The retrofitting of the electric tailgate is possible in three different gradations:

- 1. as basic version with push button at the tailgate
- 1.1. additionally with key remote control
- 1.2. additionally with opening button in the driver's door

The retrofit process: Caution is everything

We receive your vehicle in our manufactory workshop in Waltrop. After a thorough check of the paintwork and electronics (fault memory), all components that are important in the retrofit process are carefully protected with a special film before work begins. Of course, we also protect your seats with our specially made slipcovers.

Extensive disassembly

The installation of the electric liftgate requires extensive disassembly of the rear area as well as the footwell in the cockpit (passenger side). The Mercedes wiring harness, modified by our electronics specialists, is routed inside the vehicle - carefully sheathed - and secured to protect it from vibration. This is followed by the installation of a new control unit as well as the luggage compartment lock, gear motor and button for closing the flap. The mechanical shock absorbers of the trunk lid are also replaced by drive spindles, which are electrically controlled and later take over the opening and closing of the lid. The new wiring harness is connected to

The new wiring harness is connected to all relevant components and control elements, followed by professional coding and commissioning of the new system.

Rear view camera, PDC and multicontour seats

By the way: in addition to the electric liftgate, we offer many other retrofit solutions that make driving easier. For example, the retrofitting of a rear view camera, parking sensors (PDC) or multi-contour seats (electrically adjustable). We will be happy to answer individual inquiries by e-mail or telephone.
