G63 AMG 463A

If you buy a Mercedes, you usually don't have to worry or worry that the quality of your vehicle is not satisfactory. After all, the German premium manufacturer is known for a good level of equipment (at the latest when one is willing to put a few check marks in the option list), high-quality materials and excellent workmanship. Nevertheless, it obviously happens again and again that owners are not really satisfied with the standard condition of their Benz. So often, in fact, that companies such as SCHAWE Car Design are founded, which subsequently refine the Stuttgart models with the star for their customers with great attention to detail and expert craftsmanship.

The company from Waltorp, located in the north of the Ruhr area, specialises in particular in retrofitting original components or in supplementary modifications in OEM style. For example, SCHAWE can procure and install any equipment option that can be ordered from Mercedes ex works. The G-Class presented on these pages is an excellent example of what the result of extensive optimisation looks like. It is a copy of the AMG G 63 top model from the completely new model generation introduced last year.

PLENTY OF CARBON
The exterior differs from the serial condition in particular by a generous use of carbon. Numerous components have been coated by SCHAWE with the popular material, which in this case has a matt finish: These include the struts in the Panamericana radiator grille, the braces on the front and rear aprons, the front underride guard, the housings of the exterior mirrors, the door handles and the characteristic bumper strips, which are at the same height and are in turn provided with matt black decorative strips. Even the ring of the spare wheel cover is made of full carbon. Like the front grille, the latter is also provided with a SCHAWE company logo made of the popular carbon fibre material. To complete the picture, the diffuser and frame attachments for the front indicators - also made of carbon fibre - which have always been located prominently on the top of the fenders in the G-Class, as well as a heated windscreen and a matt black powder coating on the running boards are also included.

EXTENSIVELY EMBELLISHED INTERIOR
The interior presents itself just as elaborately modified. Here, carbon plays a decisive role as all wooden trim parts and the frames of the air vents are coated with carbon. And the SCHAWE steering wheel not only has a 12 o'clock marking, but is also partly made of the popular lightweight material. Various components on the valance, such as the shift paddles and the buttons, are painted in matt black - as are various parts of the centre console, the dashboard and the door panels. To complement this, there are now even more surfaces finished in nappa leather or Mercedes' fine Dinamica microfibre fabric. The latter now covers the sun visors with its decorative seam to match the roof lining. The leather now covers - also with decorative stitching - the airbag cover and the rear centre console cover. With regard to the multimedia equipment, SCHAWE retrofitted a DVBT2 TV tuner.

OPTIMIZED EXHAUST SYSTEM
Meanwhile, the technical adjustments were less extensive. The exhaust system now closes off the ceramic-coated rear silencers and SCHAWE installed a flap control module for an even more pithy engine sound. At the axles, wheel spacers (10 millimetres thick at the front and 15 millimetres thick at the rear) ensure that the original AMG forged rims in 10x22 inch with matt black paintwork including a shiny black horn and 295/40 tyres, which are subject to a surcharge, are positioned even more harmoniously in the wheel arches. Behind them, the standard high-performance braking systems with large perforated discs ensure outstanding deceleration values. And last but not least - because the G 63 owner obviously likes to go on a skiing holiday - SCHAWE has even individualised the roof box of the car: it now has the same colour as the car, while the side brackets are anodised matt black.
